Phosphatidylinositol IgM Test | Antiphospholipid Screen
Uncover a hidden antibody linked to abnormal clotting risk.
The Phosphatidylinositol IgM Test measures antibodies directed against phosphatidylinositol, a phospholipid found in cell membranes. It is used as part of an antiphospholipid screen to help investigate unexplained blood clotting (thrombosis), recurrent pregnancy loss, or certain autoimmune conditions. This test is for patients who have experienced such events or whose clinician suspects an antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) and wishes to check for this specific antibody.
Phospholipid Antibodies
- Phosphatidylinositol IgM Antibody (Anti-PI IgM): Detects and measures IgM class antibodies against phosphatidylinositol. The presence of these antibodies may indicate an increased risk of thrombosis or pregnancy complications, although they are less commonly tested than other antiphospholipid antibodies.
Why it matters
Identifying phosphatidylinositol IgM antibodies can provide valuable information in the assessment of antiphospholipid syndrome, guiding further investigation and management. Early detection may help clinicians understand the cause of unexplained clotting or pregnancy loss and tailor appropriate care.

No special preparation required.
For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
Important Clinical Information:
This test is a screening tool to monitor and support your overall health. It does not replace your GP or consultant.
Always discuss your test results, especially any abnormal results, with your GP, who can interpret them in the context of your medical history and overall health.
