Phosphatidic Acid IgG Antibody Blood Test | Antiphospholipid Screen
Uncover a hidden antibody linked to clotting and pregnancy loss.
This test measures immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies directed against phosphatidic acid, one of the phospholipid targets in the antiphospholipid antibody family. It is used as part of the investigation of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), a condition in which the immune system produces antibodies that can promote abnormal blood clotting (thrombosis) or complicate pregnancy. Your doctor may request it when you have had an unexplained blood clot, recurrent miscarriage, or a prolonged clotting time on routine testing, or when other antiphospholipid antibodies have been detected and a fuller picture is needed.
What is screened
- Phosphatidic acid IgG antibody (Anti-PA IgG): detects and, where present, quantifies IgG class antibodies that bind phosphatidic acid. These antibodies belong to the broader antiphospholipid group and can be associated with an increased tendency to thrombosis and with adverse pregnancy outcomes.
Why it matters
Antiphospholipid antibodies are an important acquired risk factor for venous and arterial blood clots and for recurrent pregnancy loss, and identifying them can change clinical management, including closer monitoring and targeted antithrombotic treatment. Phosphatidic acid is one of several phospholipid targets tested in a full antiphospholipid screen, and including it alongside cardiolipin and other phospholipid antibodies can help identify patients whose antibody profile might otherwise be missed. A positive result should always be interpreted alongside your clinical history and other antiphospholipid tests, and repeat testing may be advised to confirm persistence.

No special preparation required.
For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
Important Clinical Information:
This test is a screening tool to monitor and support your overall health. It does not replace your GP or consultant.
Always discuss your test results, especially any abnormal results, with your GP, who can interpret them in the context of your medical history and overall health.
