Listeria (Listeriosis) Antibodies Test
Pinpoint the bacterial cause of fever and flu-like illness.
Listeria (Listeriosis) Antibodies Test detects antibodies produced by the immune system in response to Listeria monocytogenes, the bacterium responsible for listeriosis. This test is for people who have experienced symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, nausea, or diarrhoea after eating high-risk foods (for example unpasteurised dairy products, soft cheeses, or ready-to-eat deli items), and for those in at-risk groups including pregnant women, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. It is also useful when a clinician needs to investigate unexplained febrile illness or suspected foodborne infection.
The test measures specific antibodies in a simple blood sample. The results can help determine whether exposure to Listeria has occurred, supporting appropriate clinical assessment and management.
Why it matters
Listeriosis can be mild in healthy adults but may cause severe complications such as meningitis, septicaemia, or pregnancy loss. Identifying the infection early allows targeted treatment and helps protect those most vulnerable.
