Lead Blood Test
Measure your lead exposure and protect your long-term health.
The Lead Blood Test measures the concentration of lead in your bloodstream, providing an accurate assessment of recent or ongoing exposure to this toxic heavy metal. Lead has no useful role in the human body, and even low-level exposure can affect the nervous system, kidneys, blood production, and cardiovascular health. This test is suitable for anyone concerned about occupational or environmental exposure, including workers in construction, painting, plumbing, battery manufacturing, recycling, and smelting, as well as adults and children living in older properties with lead pipework or lead-based paint. It is also used to investigate unexplained symptoms such as fatigue, abdominal pain, headaches, memory difficulties, or anaemia.
The analysis is performed using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), a highly sensitive technique capable of detecting very low concentrations of lead with excellent accuracy and precision.
Lead
- Lead (Pb): measures the concentration of lead in whole blood to assess recent or ongoing exposure and guide clinical or occupational health decisions.
Why it matters
Lead is a cumulative toxin that can remain in the body for years, and symptoms are often vague or absent until significant exposure has occurred. A blood lead result gives you and your clinician a clear, objective measure of exposure, allowing informed decisions about workplace safety, home environment, and any necessary clinical follow-up. Early detection is the most effective way to prevent the long-term neurological, renal, and haematological consequences of lead toxicity.

No special preparation required.
For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
Important Clinical Information:
This test is a screening tool to monitor and support your overall health. It does not replace your GP or Consultant.
Always discuss your test results, especially any abnormal results, with your GP, who can interpret them in the context of your medical history and overall health.
