Candida IgM Antibody Test
Detect early Candida exposure with a simple antibody test.
The Candida IgM Antibody Test is a single-analyte blood test used to detect immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies directed against Candida species, most commonly Candida albicans. IgM antibodies are typically the first class of antibody produced following exposure to a pathogen, so their presence can indicate a recent or acute Candida infection. This test is most useful for patients with persistent or recurrent symptoms suggestive of candidiasis, such as oral thrush, vaginal yeast infections, or systemic symptoms in immunocompromised individuals, and for clinicians seeking to confirm recent exposure where culture or molecular testing is inconclusive.
What it screens for
- Candida IgM antibodies: Detects the presence of IgM-class antibodies produced by the immune system in response to Candida antigens, suggesting recent or active infection.
Why it matters
Candida species are common commensal yeasts that can become opportunistic pathogens, particularly in people with weakened immunity, diabetes, or those using broad-spectrum antibiotics or corticosteroids. Identifying a recent Candida infection through IgM serology can guide timely antifungal treatment, help distinguish acute from chronic or past exposure, and support clinical decision-making when symptoms are non-specific. A negative result does not rule out infection, and results should always be interpreted alongside clinical history and other laboratory findings.

No special preparation required.
For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
Important Clinical Information:
This test is a screening tool to monitor and support your overall health. It does not replace your GP or Consultant.
Always discuss your test results, especially any abnormal results, with your GP, who can interpret them in the context of your medical history and overall health.
