Brucella IgG Antibody Test
Pinpoint past or ongoing Brucella exposure with confidence.
The Brucella IgG Antibody Test is a blood test used to detect IgG antibodies produced by the immune system in response to Brucella bacteria, the organisms responsible for brucellosis. This test is particularly useful for individuals who have been exposed to livestock, consumed unpasteurised dairy products, or travelled to regions where brucellosis is endemic, and who may be experiencing persistent fever, sweats, joint pain, or fatigue. It is also valuable for confirming a diagnosis when acute infection is suspected but initial screening is inconclusive, as IgG antibodies typically appear later than IgM and can indicate past or chronic infection.
The test uses an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or similar immunoassay technique to detect and quantify Brucella-specific IgG in the bloodstream. This methodology offers high sensitivity and specificity, helping to differentiate active infection from previous exposure.

Why it matters
Brucellosis can be difficult to diagnose because its symptoms overlap with many other febrile illnesses. Detecting Brucella IgG antibodies provides critical evidence of infection, guiding timely antibiotic treatment and helping to prevent complications such as arthritis, endocarditis, or neurobrucellosis. For occupational or travel-related risk groups, this test offers clarity and peace of mind, supporting both individual health and public health measures.
