The Beta-2 Glycoprotein I IgG Antibody Test is a blood test used to detect IgG antibodies directed against beta-2 glycoprotein I (β2GPI), a protein that binds to phospholipids. These antibodies are a key marker for antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), an autoimmune condition that increases the risk of blood clots (thrombosis) and pregnancy complications. This test is typically requested for individuals with a history of unexplained arterial or venous thrombosis, recurrent pregnancy loss, or autoimmune conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It may also be used to monitor disease activity and guide treatment decisions in patients with known APS.

The test specifically measures the IgG isotype of anti-β2GPI antibodies. It is often performed alongside other antiphospholipid antibody tests (such as anticardiolipin antibodies and lupus anticoagulant) to provide a comprehensive assessment. Elevated levels of IgG anti-β2GPI antibodies are associated with an increased risk of thrombosis and adverse pregnancy outcomes.

What is measured
- Beta-2 glycoprotein I IgG antibodies: Detects and quantifies IgG antibodies against β2GPI.

Why it matters
Identifying anti-β2GPI IgG antibodies helps clinicians diagnose antiphospholipid syndrome, assess thrombotic risk, and make informed decisions about anticoagulation therapy and pregnancy management. Early detection can lead to appropriate monitoring and preventive strategies, reducing the risk of serious complications.

No special preparation required.

For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.

Important Clinical Information:
