Yersinia enterocolitica IgM Antibody Test
Pinpoint the bacterial cause of persistent gut symptoms.
This test detects IgM antibodies against Yersinia enterocolitica, a bacterium that can cause food-borne gastrointestinal infection. It is used to support the diagnosis of recent or active yersiniosis, particularly when standard stool cultures are negative or when symptoms such as prolonged diarrhoea, abdominal pain, or reactive complications (for example, joint pain or erythema nodosum) are present. It is also helpful in distinguishing yersiniosis from other causes of acute or chronic bowel inflammation. The test requires a simple blood sample and is suitable for adults and children presenting with compatible symptoms.

- Yersinia enterocolitica IgM Antibody: Detects IgM-class antibodies produced in response to recent infection with Yersinia enterocolitica. A positive result suggests recent or current infection and should be interpreted alongside clinical history and other investigations.
Why it matters
Identifying yersiniosis helps guide appropriate management, reduces unnecessary investigations, and allows prompt recognition of associated complications such as reactive arthritis. Early detection also supports public health measures to prevent further transmission.
