Yersinia enterocolitica IgG Antibody Test
Uncover the hidden cause of lingering joint or gut symptoms.
The Yersinia enterocolitica IgG Antibody Test is a blood test used to detect past or ongoing infection with Yersinia enterocolitica, a bacterium that can cause gastrointestinal illness and, in some people, trigger long-term complications. It is particularly useful for patients with persistent or unexplained joint pain, reactive arthritis, or chronic digestive symptoms, as yersiniosis can mimic other conditions and often goes unrecognised. The test is also helpful when investigating possible cross-reactivity with thyroid autoantibodies or when a patient has a history of diarrhoeal illness followed by inflammatory symptoms.
Yersinia enterocolitica IgG Antibody
- Yersinia enterocolitica IgG Antibody: Detects IgG antibodies produced in response to Yersinia enterocolitica infection, indicating past exposure or an active immune response. This marker helps identify whether yersiniosis may be contributing to ongoing symptoms.
Why it matters
Yersinia infection is a recognised trigger for reactive arthritis and can be mistaken for other causes of joint or abdominal pain. Identifying IgG antibodies supports timely diagnosis and appropriate management, helping to explain persistent symptoms and guide further clinical evaluation.
