The Yersinia Antibody Blood Test (IgA & IgG) is designed for patients with persistent joint pain, unexplained gastrointestinal symptoms, or recurrent inflammatory episodes where a prior Yersinia infection is suspected. Yersinia is a bacterium that can cause food-borne illness, and in some people it triggers long-term complications such as reactive arthritis or erythema nodosum. This test detects antibodies produced by the immune system in response to Yersinia, helping to identify past or recent exposure.

Yersinia Antibodies
- Yersinia IgA Antibody: Suggests recent or ongoing immune response to Yersinia, often associated with persistent gut-related symptoms.
- Yersinia IgG Antibody: Indicates past exposure or an established immune response, useful for assessing prior infection.

A simple blood sample is collected by a trained phlebotomist. Results are interpreted alongside your clinical history and symptoms.

Why it matters
Identifying Yersinia antibodies can provide a missing link between a previous infection and current inflammatory or arthritic symptoms, guiding further investigation and management. Early detection supports appropriate clinical decisions and helps rule out other causes.

No special preparation required.

For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.

Important Clinical Information:

This test is a screening tool to monitor and support your overall health. It does not replace your GP or consultant.

Always discuss your test results, especially any abnormal results, with your GP, who can interpret them in the context of your medical history and overall health.
