Tetanus Antibody (IgG) Immunity Test
Know if you are still protected against tetanus.
This test checks whether you have protective immunity against tetanus by measuring the level of tetanus antitoxin IgG antibodies in your blood. It is useful for anyone who wants to confirm that their vaccination is still effective, whether you are due a booster, starting a new job in healthcare or outdoor work, travelling to areas where tetanus is more common, or simply want peace of mind about your immune status. It is also helpful if you have had a wound and need to know whether a booster is required.
Tetanus immunity
- Tetanus antitoxin IgG: the antibody that neutralises tetanus toxin and indicates whether you have protective immunity from past vaccination or infection.
A simple blood sample is taken in the clinic by a trained phlebotomist. No special preparation is needed.
Why it matters
Tetanus is a serious bacterial infection that can cause severe muscle spasms and breathing difficulties, and it is preventable through vaccination. Immunity can fade over time, so knowing your antibody level helps you and your clinician decide whether a booster is needed to keep you protected.

For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
