ST2 (Suppression of Tumorigenicity 2)
Decode your heart's hidden strain before symptoms appear.
ST2 (Suppression of Tumorigenicity 2) is a cardiac biomarker blood test used to assess myocardial stress and fibrosis. It measures the soluble form of the ST2 protein (sST2), which is released by cardiac cells in response to mechanical strain. This test is particularly useful for patients with known or suspected heart failure, those experiencing cardiac symptoms, or individuals at risk of adverse cardiovascular events. It helps clinicians evaluate prognosis, monitor disease progression, and guide treatment decisions.
The test is performed on a simple blood sample using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or similar immunoassay technique. No special preparation is required.

Cardiac Stress and Fibrosis
- Soluble ST2 (sST2)
Why it matters
ST2 provides valuable prognostic information in heart failure and other cardiovascular conditions. Elevated levels are associated with increased risk of hospitalisation and mortality, independent of other markers such as BNP or NT-proBNP. By measuring ST2, clinicians can identify patients who may benefit from more aggressive therapy, monitor response to treatment, and better stratify risk. This test offers a window into cardiac remodelling and fibrosis, helping to personalise care and improve outcomes.

No special preparation required.
For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
Important Clinical Information:
This test is a screening tool to monitor and support your overall health. It does not replace your GP or Consultant.
Always discuss your test results, especially any abnormal results, with your GP, who can interpret them in the context of your medical history and overall health.
