The S100 Protein Blood Test measures levels of S100B, a protein that can be elevated in melanoma and certain other conditions. It is used as a tumour marker to help monitor disease activity, response to treatment, and detect recurrence in patients with known melanoma. This test is not a screening tool for the general population; it is intended for individuals with a confirmed diagnosis of melanoma or those under specialist care for suspected disease.

Why it matters
S100B is one of the most sensitive blood markers for melanoma. Serial measurements can provide valuable information about tumour burden and help guide clinical decisions. This test is used alongside imaging and clinical assessment, not as a standalone diagnostic tool.
