Pregnenolone Blood Test | Hormone Health
The master hormone behind your sex and stress steroids.
Pregnenolone is the parent hormone from which the body produces progesterone, DHEA, testosterone, oestrogens, cortisol and aldosterone. Measuring it gives clinicians a window into the very first step of steroid hormone production, helping to explain symptoms that may otherwise seem unrelated or difficult to pin down.
This test is for adults who are investigating hormonal imbalance, adrenal or gonadal concerns, or who simply want a clearer picture of their steroid hormone pathway. It is particularly useful when other hormone results are borderline or when symptoms suggest an issue upstream of the more familiar sex and stress hormones. A simple blood sample is all that is required, taken at a time advised by your clinician.

Why it matters
Pregnenolone sits at the top of the steroid hormone cascade. If its production is low or high, the effects can ripple through sex hormone balance, stress response, energy, mood and adrenal function. Measuring pregnenolone alongside your clinical history helps your doctor identify whether a pathway-level issue is contributing to your symptoms, and guides the most appropriate next steps.

No special preparation required.
For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
Important Clinical Information:
This test is a screening tool to monitor and support your overall health. It does not replace your GP or consultant.
Always discuss your test results, especially any abnormal results, with your GP, who can interpret them in the context of your medical history and overall health.
