HTLV-2 PCR Blood Test
Confirm HTLV-2 infection with direct viral detection.
This test detects HTLV-2 DNA in a blood sample to confirm or monitor infection with Human T-cell Lymphotropic Virus type 2. It is intended for individuals with reactive HTLV screening results, those with risk factors such as intravenous drug use or known exposure, and patients requiring clarification of HTLV status. It may also be used to monitor viral presence in confirmed carriers.

Why it matters
HTLV-2 is a retrovirus that can persist lifelong and is associated with neurological and haematological complications in some individuals. Confirming infection helps guide clinical management, counselling, and appropriate monitoring, and supports informed decisions about transmission risk and care.
