HIV-1 PCR Test | Viral Load (HIV 1 RNA)
Precise viral load monitoring for confident HIV care.
What’s tested
HIV-1 Viral Load
- HIV-1 RNA (PCR, Viral Load)
Pick a time
Mondays onlyThis test is for people living with HIV-1 who need a clear, reliable measure of how much virus is present in their blood. It is used to monitor viral load over time, confirm the effectiveness of treatment, and support informed decisions about care in partnership with a clinician. It is not a screening test for HIV infection; it is a monitoring test for those with a confirmed diagnosis.
What is measured
- HIV-1 RNA viral load: the amount of HIV-1 genetic material in the blood, reported as copies per millilitre. This gives a direct indication of viral activity and treatment response.
Who it is for
- People with a confirmed HIV-1 diagnosis who are starting or already receiving antiretroviral therapy.
- Individuals who need routine monitoring of treatment effectiveness or investigation of a suspected treatment failure.
- Clinicians supporting the management of HIV-1 care who require an accurate viral load result.
Why it matters
Knowing your viral load helps you and your clinician understand how well treatment is working and whether adjustments may be needed. A sustained undetectable viral load is associated with better health outcomes and effectively eliminates the risk of sexual transmission. Regular monitoring supports timely, personalised care and gives you confidence in your treatment plan.
No special fasting required. Drink plenty of water prior to your appointment for a smooth blood draw.
