Service Description

Real-Time PCR HSV 1/2 refers to herpes simplex virus type 1 and type 2, which are two closely related viruses that belong to the Herpesviridae family. These viruses are characterized by their ability to cause recurrent infections, with symptoms ranging from mild or no symptoms to painful genital or oral blisters. HSV 1 is typically associated with oral herpes, causing cold sores or fever blisters around the mouth, whereas HSV 2 is usually associated with genital herpes, causing painful blisters on or around the genitals. However, both types of viruses can infect both areas. HSV 1/2 infections are very common, with estimates suggesting that up to 90% of adults have been exposed to the viruses at some point in their lives. The viruses are spread through direct contact with an infected person or through contact with bodily fluids, such as saliva, semen, or vaginal secretions. Currently, there is no cure for HSV 1/2 infections, but antiviral medications can help to reduce the severity and frequency of symptoms and to prevent transmission to others. It is also important to practice safe sex and to avoid direct contact with herpes sores or blisters, particularly during periods of active infection. CMV stands for cytomegalovirus, which is a type of herpesvirus that can cause infections in humans. CMV can cause a wide range of symptoms, ranging from mild or no symptoms to severe illness, particularly in individuals with weakened immune systems, such as transplant recipients or individuals with HIV/AIDS. Symptoms may include fever, fatigue, sore throat, muscle aches, and swollen glands. In pregnant women, CMV infection can also cause complications, such as congenital CMV infection in the foetus, which can lead to hearing loss, developmental delays, and other long-term health problems.
