Service Description

Biomarker: ANTI-TP Sample: BLOOD Results: 2 HRS Phlebotomy fee: £10 The ANTI-TP test detects in the bloodstream, the presence of antibodies against Treponema Pallidum, the bacterium that causes syphilis. Syphilis can progress through four stages: primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary. Primary syphilis: This is the first stage of syphilis, and it usually appears as a single, painless sore called a chancre. The chancre usually appears within 3 weeks of exposure to the bacteria, but it can appear as late as 9 weeks after exposure. Secondary syphilis: This is the second stage of syphilis, and it usually appears within 2 to 12 weeks after the chancre goes away. Symptoms of secondary syphilis can include a rash, fever, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue. Latent syphilis: This is the third stage of syphilis, and it can last for years or even decades without any symptoms. However, the bacteria can still be active during this stage, and it can spread to other people. Tertiary syphilis: This is the fourth and final stage of syphilis, and it can cause serious health problems, such as heart disease, brain damage, and blindness. Syphilis is a treatable infection and early diagnoses can prevent any serious health problems.
