ST2: A Vital Sign for Your Heart
Service Description
Biomarker: ST2 Sample: BLOOD Results: SAME DAY Phlebotomy fee: £0 The ST2 test measures levels of the ST2 protein, which is part of the interleukin-1 receptor family. It is used primarily as a biomarker for heart failure, particularly to assess prognosis, monitor disease progression, and predict outcomes in patients with heart failure. The ST2 protein is released in response to myocardial stress and is elevated in conditions like heart failure, where it can indicate myocardial strain and fibrosis. High levels of ST2 are associated with an increased risk of adverse outcomes in heart failure, including mortality. Symptoms of High Level of ST2 -- Shortness of breath, especially with exertion or when lying down; -- Swelling in the legs, ankles, or abdomen; -- Fatigue and weakness, -- Rapid or irregular heartbeat ad reduced ability to exercise, -- Persistent coughing or wheezing, -- Sudden weight gain from fluid retention.
