Sperm Fragmentation and Apoptotosis
Assess sperm DNA quality and identify potential fertility problems
Service Description
FACS Sperm DNA fragmentation and sperm apoptosis are two tests used to assess the quality of sperm in men. Sperm DNA fragmentation refers to damage to the genetic material (DNA) in sperm cells. High levels of sperm DNA fragmentation have been associated with reduced fertility and an increased risk of pregnancy loss. This test is performed by evaluating the amount of DNA damage in sperm cells. Sperm apoptosis, on the other hand, refers to programmed cell death of sperm cells. While a certain level of apoptosis is a normal process in sperm development and maturation, excessive apoptosis can impair sperm function and reduce fertility. This test is performed by assessing the level of apoptosis in sperm cells. Both sperm DNA fragmentation and sperm apoptosis tests are important tools for evaluating male fertility and can help guide treatment options for couples who are struggling with infertility. Depending on the results of these tests, various interventions, such as lifestyle changes, antioxidant therapy, or assisted reproductive technologies (ART), may be recommended.
