In this condition, the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own healthy tissues, specifically the synovium, which is the lining of the joints. This immune response leads to inflammation, pain, stiffness, and swelling in the affected joints. The biomarkers measure the levels of proteins in the blood that are associated with RA. Rheumatoid Factor (RF): This test measures the level of RF, an antibody present in the blood of many people with rheumatoid arthritis. However, it's important to note that not all individuals with RA have a positive RF test, and some people without RA may have a positive RF result. Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) antibodies: This test detects the presence of anti-CCP antibodies, which are more specific to rheumatoid arthritis than RF. High levels of anti-CCP antibodies are often associated with more severe disease. Anti-Streptolysin O (ASO): The ASO test measures the amount of antibodies to streptolysin O (SLO) in the blood. These antibodies are produced by the immune system in response to an infection by the bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes, which is responsible for a variety of infections, including strep throat and skin infections. C-reactive protein (CRP): This test is a marker of inflammation and is not specific to rheumatoid arthritis. It can indicate the presence and severity of inflammation in the body. Complete Blood Count (CBC): This test provides information about the number and types of blood cells, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. It helps assess the overall health of an individual and can provide additional information about inflammation. CODE: HP/HF
