Service Description

Biomarker: HCG + β Sample: BLOOD Results: 4 HRS Phlebotomy fee: £10 Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a glycoprotein hormone produced by the placenta, a component of the fertilised egg, after conception. The biological active hormone (intact HCG) is a compound of two subunits: alpha (α) and beta (β). The beta subunit is unique to HCG and provides specific measure of monitoring pregnancy progression. This test measures the presence and the level of HCG hormone in the blood. After egg fertilisation, the HCH level double every 48 to 72 hours and reach its peak in the first 8 to 11 weeks of pregnancy. In addition to pregnancy tests, HCG beta subunit levels can be used to monitor the health of a pregnancy, assess the risk of miscarriage, and diagnose certain medical conditions such as certain types of tumors.
