Biomarker: IgE Sample: BLOOD Results: 2 HRS Phlebotomy fee: £10 IgE test measures the level of immunoglobulin E (IgE) in the blood. IgE is an antibody that is produced by the immune system in response to an allergen, such as pollen, dust, or certain foods. IgE disorders includes: -- Allergic rhinitis: Sneezing, nasal congestion, runny nose, itching of the nose or eyes, and postnasal drip. -- Allergic conjunctivitis: Redness, itching, and watering of the eyes. -- Asthma: Wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing. -- Atopic dermatitis (eczema): Itchy, red, inflamed skin with dryness, scaling, or oozing. -- Urticaria (hives): Itchy, raised, red welts on the skin that can appear and disappear rapidly. -- Angioedema: Swelling of the deeper layers of the skin, usually around the eyes, lips, tongue, or throat. -- Food allergies: Symptoms can vary but may include itching or tingling in the mouth, swelling of the lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or diarrhoea. -- Anaphylaxis: A severe, life-threatening allergic reaction characterized by symptoms such as difficulty breathing, wheezing, swelling, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, and loss of consciousness.
