Human Leukocyte Antigen Β-27
E-G51-2WKS
Service Description
PCR -RFLPs: HLA-B27 is a specific type of HLA B antigen that is present on the surface of white blood cells. It is encoded by the HLA-B gene, which is located on chromosome 6 in the human genome. HLA-B27 is an important antigen in the HLA system, and its presence is associated with an increased risk of developing certain autoimmune diseases, particularly spondyloarthropathies such as ankylosing spondylitis, reactive arthritis, and psoriatic arthritis. However, it is important to note that the presence of HLA-B27 alone does not necessarily mean that a person will develop these conditions, as many individuals with HLA-B27 do not develop any related diseases. Results of HLA-B27 typing are reported as either positive or negative. If positive, it may be an indication that the individual is at an increased risk for developing certain autoimmune diseases, and further evaluation by a healthcare provider may be recommended.
