Service Description

Biomarker: ANTI-HBS Sample: BLOOD Results: 2 HRS Phlebotomy fee: £10 The anti-HBs test is a blood test that measures the level of antibodies to the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). Antibodies are proteins that the body's immune system produces in response to an infection. A positive anti-HBs test result indicates that the person has been exposed to the hepatitis B virus and has developed immunity to the virus. This can happen in two ways: Vaccination: The hepatitis B vaccine contains a weakened form of the HBsAg that helps the body's immune system to produce antibodies against the virus. Recovery from infection: After an acute infection with the hepatitis B virus, the body's immune system will usually clear the virus from the body and produce antibodies against the virus. A positive anti-HBs test result means that the person is immune to hepatitis B and cannot get the infection again. However, it is still important to get regular blood tests to monitor the level of antibodies, as the level of antibodies can decline over time.
