Service Description

Biomarker: fT3 Sample: BLOOD Results: 2 HRS Phlebotomy fee: £10 The fT3 (free triiodothyronine) test measures the levels of free triiodothyronine in the bloodstream. Triiodothyronine (T3) is a thyroid hormone that plays a crucial role in regulating metabolism, growth, and development in the body. The fT3 test specifically measures the unbound or free fraction of T3, which is the active form of the hormone. The fT3 test is important for thyroid function assessment . Low fT3 levels along with elevated TSH and/or decreased fT4 levels can indicate an underactive thyroid, where the thyroid gland doesn't produce sufficient thyroid hormone. Symptoms of hypothyroidism may include weight gain, fatigue, cold intolerance, dry skin, constipation, depression, and memory problems. Elevated fT3 levels along with suppressed levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and/or elevated levels of free thyroxine (fT4) can indicate an overactive thyroid, characterized by excess thyroid hormone production. Symptoms of hyperthyroidism may include weight loss, rapid heartbeat, anxiety, tremors, increased sweating, and fatigue. It is important to note that these symptoms can be caused by various other conditions, and the presence of symptoms alone is not sufficient to diagnose a thyroid disorder. Proper diagnosis and interpretation of fT3 test results should be done by a healthcare professional who will consider the individual's medical history, symptoms, and other relevant factors.
