Biomarker: CYFRA 21-1 Sample: Blood Results: SAME DAY Phlebotomy Fee: £15 ABOUT THIS TEST CYFRA 21-1 is a tumour marker commonly associated with lung cancer, particularly non-small cell lung cancer. It may be used to help monitor treatment response or detect recurrence. WHEN CYFRA 21-1 MAY BE RAISED Elevated levels are most frequently associated with non-small cell lung cancer. Levels may also increase in other cancers such as bladder cancer. In some cases mild elevation may occur in certain benign lung conditions. SYMPTOMS THAT MAY REQUIRE FURTHER ASSESSMENT Persistent cough. Chest pain or discomfort. Shortness of breath. Coughing up blood. Unexplained weight loss. Persistent fatigue. IMPORTANT NOTE CYFRA 21-1 is not a diagnostic test for cancer on its own. Elevated levels may occur in both cancerous and non-cancerous conditions. Results should always be interpreted alongside clinical findings and further investigations where necessary.
