Service Description
Biomarker: CEA Sample: BLOOD Results: 2 HRS Phlebotomy fee: £10.00 CEA test measures the levels of CEA, a protein that can be produced by certain types of cancer cells. The test is commonly used as a tumour marker, specifically for colorectal cancer, but it may also be used for other types of cancer, such as lung, pancreatic, breast, and ovarian cancer. The CEA test is important for : -- Screening and diagnosis certain cancers, especially colorectal cancer, in both early and advanced stages. It may be used alongside other diagnostic tests and imaging studies to aid in the diagnosis and evaluation of cancer. -- Monitoring effectiveness of treatment response to help guide treatment decisions. It is important to note that the CEA test is not a standalone diagnostic tool, and its results must be interpreted in conjunction with other clinical findings and investigations. Additionally, not all individuals with cancer will have elevated CEA levels, and elevated levels can also occur in non-cancerous conditions, such as certain inflammatory diseases or smoking.
