While healthy tissues produce small amounts of CA-15.3, it is primarily used as a tumour marker, particularly for breast cancer. The test may be use to: -- Diagnosing and Monitoring Breast Cancer -- Assessing Treatment Response -- Detecting Cancer Recurrence CA 15-3 levels may be elevated in other conditions besides breast cancer, such as ovarian cancer, lung cancer, and liver disease. However, the test is most commonly used in the context of breast cancer. SYMPTOMS OF HIGH CA 15.3 Symptoms of high levels of CA-15.3 may include: -- Changes in the breast tissue, such as a lump, thickening, or dimpling of the skin. -- Persistent or worsening pain in the breast or armpit area. -- Changes in the appearance of the nipple, such as inversion, discharge, or changes in colour. -- Swelling, redness, or warmth in the breast tissue. -- Changes in the skin over the breast, such as redness, scariness, or puckering. It is important to note that elevated CA 15-3 levels do not necessarily indicate the presence of breast cancer, and further evaluations are typically required to determine the underlying cause.
