Service Description

Biomarker: CA-125 Sample: BLOOD Results: SAME DAY Phlebotomy Fee: £15 ABOUT THIS TEST CA-125 is a protein measured in the blood. It is commonly used as a tumour marker associated with ovarian cancer, especially for monitoring treatment or tracking changes over time. WHEN CAN CA-125 BE RAISED? CA-125 may be raised in ovarian cancer. It can also be elevated in other cancers such as pancreatic, lung, and breast cancer. Non-cancerous causes include endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine fibroids, benign ovarian cysts, menstruation, and pregnancy. COMMON SYMPTOMS - Persistent abdominal or pelvic pain. - Bloating or swelling of the abdomen. - Feeling full quickly. - Changes in bowel habits. - Frequent or urgent urination. - Unexplained weight loss. - Ongoing fatigue. UNDERSTANDING THE RESULTS Because CA-125 is found in many tissues, a high reading is a starting point, not a final diagnosis. If your levels are outside the normal range, we recommend discussing the results with your GP to determine if further imaging (like an ultrasound) is necessary.
