CA-125 levels can also be elevated in non-cancerous conditions such as endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), uterine fibroids, and certain benign ovarian cysts. Additionally, CA-125 levels may be elevated in some cases of breast cancer, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, and other cancers, although it is less commonly used as a marker for these cancers compared to ovarian cancer. SYMPTOMS OF HIGH CA-125 Symptoms of high levels of CA-125 may vary depending on the underlying cause. In the context of ovarian cancer, elevated CA-125 levels may not cause any noticeable symptoms early on. However, as the cancer progresses, symptoms may include: -- Persistent or worsening pain in the abdomen or pelvis. -- Swelling or bloating of the abdomen, often accompanied by a feeling of fullness or discomfort. -- Changes in bowel habits, such as constipation or diarrhoea. -- Increased frequency or urgency of urination, or difficulty emptying the bladder completely. -- Decreased appetite or unintended weight loss. -- Fatigue: Persistent fatigue or feeling of weakness. It is important to remember that elevated CA-125 levels do not necessarily indicate the presence of ovarian cancer, and further evaluation is typically required to determine the underlying cause.
