Biomarker: CALPROTECTIN Sample: STOOL Results: SAME DAY Phlebotomy fee: £0 The calprotectin stool test measures the amount of calprotectin, a protein released by neutrophils, in a stool sample. It is a marker of inflammation in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and is primarily used to differentiate between inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) (like Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis) and non-inflammatory conditions (like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)). Elevated levels of calprotectin in the stool indicate inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract. This is commonly associated with: -- Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease -- Ulcerative colitis. -- Infections (bacterial gastroenteritis) -- Colorectal cancer Symptoms of High Calprotectin Levels: -- Chronic diarrhoea -- Abdominal pain or cramping -- Rectal bleeding -- Unintended weight loss -- Fatigue
