Biomarker: CA 72-4 Sample: Blood Results: 4 Hours Phlebotomy Fee: £20 ABOUT THIS TEST CA 72-4 is a tumour marker most commonly associated with gastric (stomach) cancer. It may be used to help monitor treatment response or detect recurrence after treatment. WHEN CA 72-4 MAY BE RAISED Elevated levels are most frequently seen in stomach cancer. Levels may also increase in ovarian cancer and some gastrointestinal cancers. Occasionally CA 72-4 may be raised in certain benign gastrointestinal conditions. SYMPTOMS THAT MAY REQUIRE FURTHER ASSESSMENT Persistent stomach pain or discomfort. Unexplained weight loss. Loss of appetite. Nausea or vomiting. Persistent indigestion. Feeling full quickly after eating. IMPORTANT NOTE CA 72-4 is not a stand-alone diagnostic test for cancer. Elevated levels may occur in non-cancerous conditions and results should always be interpreted alongside clinical findings and appropriate imaging or diagnostic tests.
