It plays a role in regulating the immune system and has antioxidant properties. Some possible causes of elevated levels of α1-MG in urine may include: -- Kidney damage or dysfunction -- Acute kidney injury (AKI) -- Urinary tract obstruction -- Chronic kidney disease (CKD) -- Pregnancy Some possible causes of low α1-MG in urine include: -- Increased reabsorption by the kidneys -- Proteinuria, the presence of abnormal amounts of protein in urine -- Malnutrition or low protein intake Certain medications may affect α1-MG level in urine.
