Adenosine Deaminase (ADA)
Detect immune system abnormalities
Service Description
Biomarker: ADA Sample: BLOOD Results: 2 HRS Phlebotomy: £0.00 ADA is an enzyme that plays a role in purine metabolism and the immune system. The ADA test measures the level adenosine deaminase (ADA) enzyme in pleural fluid, the fluid that surrounds the lungs. Elevated ADA levels in pleural fluid can indicate a tuberculosis (TB) infection in the pleura, the lining of the lungs. The ADA test is used to help diagnose a variety of conditions, including: --Severe Combined immunodeficiency (SCID) : a rare genetic disorder that causes the immune system to be underdeveloped. -- Diamond-Blackfan anaemia (DBA): a rare blood disorder that causes the body to produce not enough red blood cells. -- Tuberculosis (TB): a bacterial infection that can affect the lungs, but it can also spread to other parts of the body, including the pleurae, the membranes that line the lungs and chest cavity.
