ACE Mutation (ACE, I/D)
Detect sarcoidosis early and manage your health better
Service Description
The angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene produces an enzyme that is involved in regulating blood pressure and fluid balance in the body. This test uses PCR-Hybridization to detect a common variation in this gene which is an insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism in which a section of DNA is either inserted or deleted. Individuals who inherit two copies of the deletion variant (DD genotype) have been associated with higher levels of ACE and increased risk for conditions such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and kidney disease. Individuals with one deletion variant (ID genotype) also have higher ACE levels, but the risk for these conditions is not as high as those with the DD genotype. Individuals with the insertion variant (II genotype) have lower ACE levels and may have a lower risk for these conditions. It is important to note that the ACE I/D polymorphism is just one of many factors that can influence an individual's risk for these conditions. Other lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, and smoking, as well as other genetic factors, also play a role. Sample: BLOOD Results:2 weeks Phlebotomy fee: £15 (included in price)
